[edit] Welcome!

Hello, and welcome to Duiki! We hope you like the site and can help us make it a great resource for the Duke Community. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

  • How to edit pages
  • The Duiki style guide
    • For these two items, note that the easiest way to get started is to look around a bit, find pages whose format you like, and use the Edit link in Editing tools for that page. You can then look at how the article was written.
  • Unwritten pages with most requests
  • List of administrators - feel free to contact any one of us with questions or post questions on our talk pages (available if you click on a user name to go to their user page, then click on the Discussion link under Editing tools - in fact, each article will have a talk page for conversations about the page without having that show up in the article itself.
    • As a matter of convention and convenience, when leaving comments on talk (or discussion) pages, please use four tildes (~~~~) at the end of your post. When saved, this will automatically sign the post with your username and date. You do not need to sign articles - your contributions will automatically be logged by the article's history file.
  • If you think there is an article on Wikipedia or some other site that would be great for here, please put any requests for them on the Duke_Wiki:RfI page and a sysop will get to it post haste. Certain pages we can copy or borrow from under conditions of the GFDL and others...we can't. But if we can, we can easily import them versus having to cut and paste.
Thanks for joining, and again - welcome to Duiki!

[edit] Dates?

Can't believe you didn't add hang out at the natatorium on East or go to a swim meet to the dates page  ;)

[edit] X11R6

This is awesome - so I added that short little "doesn't work on Macs thing" to the [X-Win 32] page during a meeting yesterday showing some school officials from Saudi Arabia how a wiki works, and left it with the statement, "On a Wiki, lots of times all you have to do is plant a seed and someone else will grow the tree for you." I can't wait to meet with them again on Monday and show them the X11R6 page...

  • Do you have any advice for how people should actually get the X11R6 stuff installed on their computer? I know you have to get it off the disk, but...

Duiki Silver Star Award
For extremely helpful information for Mac Users everywhere...or certainly at least here...on the X11R6 page - Thank You!

[edit] Athletics

I made a basic profile to start up an athletics page - see Men's Basketball. I was planning to make pages for each sport so that all 26 would show up in the Category:Varsity Sports category as you recommended, then dismantlin the portal as it is now. Any other ideas for what is boilerplate? An infobox maybe?

[edit] Calendar

Yeah, it's not clean, but it is workable. --AndrewTutt 21:45, 4 September 2006 (MDT)

[edit] RE: Vandalism

Yeah, I saw the vandalism, but I don't understand how to operate the admin controls. Thanks for helping me in a pinch! --AndrewTutt 22:09, 12 September 2006 (MDT)

  • Regarding the new vandalism thing, technically, I don't think you can really vandalize a sandbox...

[edit] Matt Lynch

I saw the page edits about Taishoff, and I was wondering if you know specifically what was named for Matt Lynch there, and when. I tried to look it up to add it to the page but couldn't find it...I know his name is on the record board

[edit] Mystery Pic

It's not obvious to everyone... that banner could have been anywhere!
