  • Is this an example question? I think so! Just be sure to sign yours!
  • I followed the first directions for setting up x-win32 however I get the error "teer4.oit.duke.edu: Network error: connection refused" Any ideas?
    • That generally means that a particular computer is down - try a different machine.
    • I tried godzilla.acpub.duke.edu. You can't tell me that godzilla is down too. I can ping both addresses as well. At the very least the machine is running. Whether or not they are accepting connections I don't know.
    • That's a new one to me - if multiple pingable machines are not letting you connect then there's something wrong with your firewall, or the connection port, or something along those lines for StarNetSSH.

  • Is it possible for multiple computers working behind the same router to each have an X-win session running? --Crs6 17:13, 3 September 2006 (MDT)
    • Well since the setenv command is shipping the graphics to an IP address, and presumably a router can only have one IP address for itself, it would have to do with routing to different ports? I think X-Win can use ports 6000-6010, so it might be that you can tell the setenv command to send to a different screen (change the :0.0 to :0.1 for a second computer, :0.2 for a third, etc) and then route port 6001 to the second machine and 6002 to the third? This is pure speculation on my part at this point. If true, not sure if you would have to tell the XConfig Display setting that you are display 1 or 2 vice 0...

  • I am able to sign into SSH however when I attempt to run Matlab or xemacs it is unable to display the graphics of the program for some reason. Any ideas? --mfm9
    • Could be a lot of different things - make sure you have xwin32 running and the machine into which you've connected listed in the xconfig. If that doesn't work, and you have a laptop, bring it to class or lab

  • I am running X-win32 8.1 and I am unable to run matlab either. I have tried this on two computers, a lenovo running wirelessly with vista, and an XP desktop that is plugged into a wall outlet. When executing matlab, the splash screen loads, but then i receive this line error:
    Xlib:unexpected async reply (sequence 0x142)!
and then the splash screen hangs indefinitly. Please advise.

    • I have heard that a couple times but haven't been able to fix it the few times someone brought me a PC that was doing it. Best bet is to take the PC to the OIT help desk in the Bryan Center and ask them about it. AND if there's an answer - please post it here  :)
