[edit] History

Duke's Mock Trial teams have a tradition of excellence at the national level, having qualified for the National Championships 11 times in twelve seasons. In its history, Duke Mock Trial has captured two South Atlantic Regional crowns and been a Top 10 finisher at the National Championships three times. In the last seven years, Duke Mock Trial members have been named All Americans 6 times.

[edit] The '05/'06 Season

This past year Duke Mock Trial witnessed one of the most memorable and successful seasons in its 12 year history. From finishing 12th place with a team that included half of its participants making their college mock trial debut at MTSU - a November Invitational that hosts 68 teams from across the country - to finishing both 1st AND 2nd place at the Lafayette Invitational - to having two teams go 6-2 at the Greenville Regional, Duke Mock Trial re-established itself as a national force. With the pair of 6-2 teams at the Greenville Regional, Duke qualified two teams for national competition, one of which competed at the National Tournament in St. Petersburg, FL and the other competing at the National Championship Competition in Des Moines, Iowa. In Iowa, Duke’s top team received an honorable mention just missing its 4th Top 10 finish in team history.

[edit] The '08/'09 (upcoming) Season

In 2008-2009 Duke has high expectations. In November, Duke will host the Third Annual Tobacco Road Invitational. Duke will return it's entire team (minus Mrinalini Gupta '08) from the National Championship Tournament in addition to 7 other individuals who received awards at the Greenville Regional. Duke is coached by Duke law students Jessica Brumley, 3L, Erin Blondel, 3L, Kyle Thomason, 2L, and Chris Suedekum, 2L– all of whom were national competitors in college. Duke’s administrative advisor is Todd Adams, Dean of Fraternity and Sorority Life.

In 2008-2009 the Duke program looks to be led by 4th year veterans Chetan Jhaveri (President), Rose Yan (Vice President), Amanda Norris (Treasurer), Scott Eren, Mohamed Maarouf, Lauren Gundrum, Zach Pace, and Rachel Buck. Third-year membersBud Baker and Joseph Yarbough will serve as the program’s co-secretaries.
