Gilbert-Addoms or GA residence hall is the largest dormitory on East Campus and home to approximately 190 First Year students. Like all other halls on campus, Gilbert-Addoms is co-ed, with male and female students living on the same floor. Gilbert-Addoms is staffed by one Graduate Assistant and eight Resident Assistants under the supervision of Residence Coordinator Katie Yates.

[edit] Inside the Dorm

Gilbert-Addoms boasts some of the more fun and functional spaces on East Campus. The G.A. deck offers porch swings and picnic tables to spend a sunny afternoon sitting outside to talk with fellow residents. The large commons rooms allow students a quiet space to study or a communal space to play pool, ping pong, or watch TV.

Gilbert-Addoms is also is home to the GA Down Under, a large multi-functional basement area for residents from across East Campus. It provides an excellent on-campus venue for performances b;iuiouy8iy student groups and is also a great place to study, play pool, or attend Devils After Dark, a programming series every week on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night from 10PM - 2PM.

The Faculty-in-Residence Program is one of the ways in which Duke University seeks to facilitate, strengthen, and expand interaction between faculty members and undergraduates beyond the classroom. The Gilbert-Addoms Faculty-in-Residence is Michele Rasmussen, Assistant Dean for Trinity College.

Opening in 1957, the building was named in honor of Katherine Everett Gilbert, Professor and first chair of the Department of Aesthetics, Art, and Music and for Ruth Margery Addoms, Professor of Botany.

Gilbert-Addoms is part of the East 3 Neighborhood along with Southgate.
