Duke Wiki:About
From Duke Wiki
The Duke Wiki, Duiki, is a repository of information relating to Duke University - in every aspect. Information - sure. But we also want the Duke Wiki to have guides, reviews, descriptions, and insights as well. The idea is to create an online Duke community in its strongest sense.
[edit] Notability
Duke Wiki is America's oldest, largest, and most popular independent university wiki. Though other similar wiki projects about Universities came before it and have become larger, Duiki is 100% independent of Duke University, run completely by volunteers.
[edit] Philosophy
Duiki stems from the ideas of several individuals for implementing a freely accessible, freely editable, and extremely user-friendly website where useful and entertaining information about the city and the university can be collected. The central concept of Duiki is the ability for anyone to create an illustrated "entry" describing a place, event, person, or idea related to Duke, and make it possible for others to find and reference the entry in order to organize and build on the content.
Users are encourage to treat their pages like profiles, and tell about themselves. Everything that can be done on the facebook can be done here, even more. And perhaps best of all, information about the institutions, buildings, traditions, practices, programs, and people that make us all citizens of Duke University can be added, improved, polished, and displayed to each other. This is the kind of information that will make the University a welcoming place, sans secrets.
